Of the characters created by Denny O'Neil in his novel Dragon's Fists that he later adapted into DC comics in his series Richard Dragon, Kung Fu Fighter, Ben Turner seems to have made the most fluid transition into an actual comic book super hero. While he's clearly meant to be an interpretation of the characters played by Jim Kelly in the classic kung fu movies of the seventies, once he began appearing in comics like Suicide Squad in his trademark orange gi he was clearly quite at home. He's shown up both with and without his tiger mask and both looks fit him quite well... although some artists seem to be under the impression that he's actually an anthromorphic tiger, and that always gets weird. He's shown up in a variety of tie-in properties, including the animated Brave and the Bold, and as a villain in the live-action series Arrow where he's played by martial arts superstar Michael Jai White. His appearance is always a fun slice of comic goodness.
There was very little we had to change. He's been an ongoing character with a constant presence for many years, and we simply included the many iterations of his career,. This included his time as a DEO agent with Richard Dragon, the time he spent brainwashed to work for the League of Assassins, and his tenure within the Suicide Squad. He's a fun character that's surprisingly easy to get right.
