It's pretty insane that, simply as a byproduct of the stories that have been told in the pages of DC Comics, their shared universe features a hidden technologically advanced city populated by super-intelligent gorillas. That's not the sort of thing you want to include when you're trying to sell someone on the idea of reading comics, but once you ARE reading them it's one of your favorite things.
Our Solovar Story
Solovar was first introduced in 1959, a supporting character in the stories that introduced Gorilla Grodd. He's not exactly the sort of character that can be in EVERY story, but he's a mainstay in the world of the Flash and in DC at large nontheless. He was even a major character in the Crisis of Infinite Earths, simply because Gorilla City, as weird as it is, is a well-established story element in the mythology.
For our story, we simply needed to maintain the idea of Solovar as the rightful ruler of Gorilla City and the longtime nemesis of Grodd. He's one of the very few denizens of Gorilla City to develop psychic powers, which allows him to contact the Flash, but also needs to be depicted as a figurehead in the political world. His eventual assassination is a pretty big part of the evolution of his city, making his son Nnamdi the new king, but also a huge step in the story of Grodd himself.
